About the event
This roundtable explores how curatorial practices in public art can engage with and recontextualize contested historical narratives. We will examine different approaches to controversial monuments through temporary and permanent artistic projects, connecting experiences from Nordic countries with Eastern European realities.
The event will be facilitated by Niels Righolt, cultural developer from Denmark, and will benefit from the expertise of two distinguished speakers. Alba Baeza, curator at Public Art Agency Sweden, will discuss curating public art and artistic interventions in contested spaces. Sergiu Musteață, historian, member of the Commission for the Analysis and Evaluation of the Communist Totalitarian Regime in the Republic of Moldova and Secretary General of the National Commission of the Republic of Moldova for UNESCO, will address post-communist monument politics and historical memory in the Republic of Moldova.
Topics to be addressed include artistic curation as historical mediation, the comparison between temporary and permanent interventions, educational dimensions of public art, institutional frameworks for artistic engagement with public memory, as well as methodologies for documenting and archiving monument transformations.
Who should attend
We invite cultural practitioners, art professionals, cultural researchers and academics, representatives of cultural organizations and heritage institutions, as well as anyone interested in the subject from Romania and the Republic of Moldova. The event will bring together approximately 20 participants who will contribute to a genuine exchange of experiences and perspectives.
