Formare Culturală platform invites cultural practitioners, arts professionals, researchers, cultural organization representatives, and heritage institution professionals from Romania and the Republic of Moldova to participate in the third virtual roundtable of the project “Nordic Insights: Addressing Cancel Culture in Public Spaces through Artistic Dialogue and Cultural Innovation.”
Date: January 23, 2026, 3:00 PM Romania/Moldova time / 2:00 PM CET
Format: Online, in English, with Romanian translation
Duration: Approximately 2 hours
About the Event
This roundtable explores concrete ways to implement interventions in contested public spaces, connecting cultural policy frameworks with community-based approaches. We will examine legal mechanisms and policy structures that enable artistic and cultural interventions in controversial public spaces, as well as community engagement strategies in monument recontextualization processes.
The event will be facilitated by Niels Righolt, cultural developer from Denmark (CKI – The Danish Centre for Arts and Interculture), and will feature two expert speakers. Jonas Dahlberg, artist and professor at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm, founding director of the interdisciplinary studio Of Public Interest (OPI), will discuss artistic approaches to reimagining common spaces and the politics of space. Laura Panait, urban anthropologist and community developer from Romania, will present community-based approaches to contested urban spaces, drawing on her experience with the “La Terenuri-Spațiu Comun în Mănăștur” project in Cluj-Napoca.
Topics to be addressed include policy frameworks for cultural interventions in contested public spaces, local approaches and their challenges, community-based decision-making models, collaboration between government authorities, cultural organizations and local communities, practical methodologies and action plans for cultural practitioners, as well as impact assessment and sustainability of recontextualization initiatives.
Who Should Attend
We invite cultural practitioners, arts professionals, cultural researchers and artists, representatives of cultural organizations and cultural public institutions, as well as anyone interested in the subject from Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
The event will bring together approximately 20 participants for an exchange of experiences and perspectives.
