Jonas Dahlberg is an artist based in Stockholm. He is a professor at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm and the founding director of the interdisciplinary studio Of Public Interest (OPI). OPI conducts its activities as a studio for realizing actual projects, a lab for research, and an advanced post-master course at RIA for learning. The emphasis of OPI is on taking an active part in critically re-imagining our common spaces, what values they contain, who they are for, in which ways they are shared, and how they are made and by whom.
Jonas Dahlberg is known for his winning proposals for the memorials for the victims of the terrorist attacks in Oslo and Utøya on 22 July 2011. He is also known for his ongoing series of video works that have become his fundamental research in how to analyze sites and the politics of space.
In his diverse practice Dahlberg has produced the books Invisible Cities and An Imagined City, and created opera scenography for Verdi’s Macbeth at Grand Théâtre de Genève and Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. He continuously works with photography, film, installations as well as other works. Jonas Dahlberg has represented Sweden in Sao Paulo Biennial and was part of the 50th Venice Biennial as well as Busan Biennale, Prospect 2 in New Orleans, Manifesta 4 in Frankfurt, Lisbon Architecture Biennial and the Thessaloniki Biennale. He has exhibited in institutions such as Moderna Museet Stockholm, Kunsthalle Wien, Dundee Contemporary Arts, Kunsthall Charlottenborg, Gothenburg Konsthall , Tramway Glasgow, Leeum Museum Seoul, Kunstmuseum Bonn, Kunsthalle Sankt Gallen, Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, Kunsthall Trondheim and FRAC Bourgogne in Dijon.
