Session description
This session, organised by Formare Culturala platform within Creative Skills Week 2025, addresses the challenges facing Europe’s cultural and creative industries through an integrated approach to skills development, funding models, and innovation ecosystems. The session brings together distinguished European experts with complementary perspectives spanning creative education, innovation management, and regional ecosystem development. The session is part of the project ”Beyond Creation”, cofinanced by The Administration of the National Cultural Fund.
Key focus areas
Participants will explore interconnected dimensions essential for sustainable creative ecosystems:
- Education-Industry Gap: Examining the disconnect between creative education and industry needs
- Hybrid Competencies: Exploring new models for professional development that balance artistic excellence with entrepreneurial capability
- Regional Scaling: Analyzing practical approaches that enable regional creative economies to scale successfully
- Cross-Sector Innovation: Exploring interdisciplinary approaches and partnerships between creative industries and other sectors (health, technology, sustainability) to unlock new opportunities
Expert panel
Charlotte Lorentz Hjorth – CEO of Future By Lund and Coordinator of international partnerships at Lund University, with over 25 years of experience building innovation ecosystems across Sweden. 2011-2020 she was the CEO of Sweden’s largest innovation arena for food-related companies. Since 2020 she works at Lund University Collaboration where she is assigned as CEO of Future by Lund that coordinates the development of Lund Innovation District. Within her assignments she also coordinates the European Cultural and Creatives Industry Innovation Policy Platform, that develops policy recommendations that aim to establish open innovation as a standard in ecosystems.
Rolf Hughes – Education Director at EIT Culture & Creativity. With a distinguished career spanning artistic and design innovation in academia, research, and policy, Hughes has been Director of Research at Konstfack and Stockholm University of the Arts, held senior professorships in artistic and design-led research in Sweden and Belgium and was twice elected Vice-President of the Society for Artistic Research by its membership. He has served as an evaluator for the European Research Council, worked for national research councils in Sweden, Norway, Portugal, and Austria, and chaired expert panels for the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research, assessing universities vying for Centres of Excellence in Higher Education.
Moderator
Oana Nasui – Cultural manager and researcher with extensive experience in consultancy, management, evaluation, and communication within cultural and creative sectors. Notable achievements include coordinating Bucharest’s first Cultural and Creative Strategy 2015-2025 and coordinating a public policy proposal on the Artist’s Status in Romania.
